Description

Very fleshy, elongated, medium- green leaves with lighter green spots.  Leaves have spiked edges and pointy ends.  A long tubular spike with a series of yellow flowers emerges in summer (typically only flowers in full sun).

1.  Does not need much attention

2.  Re-pot plants as they grow

3.  For in ground plants, don't water unless the soil is extremely dry.

1.  Soil that is consistently moist

2.  Temperatures that drop below 41 degrees F. will weaken the plant

1.  Uses:  Medicinal and cosmetic

2.  The sap promotes the healing of wounds, burns, insect stings, sunburn

     eczema, and other minor skin irritations

3.  The sap contains:  polysaccharides which boost the immune system;                       minerals; antioxidant vitamins (C, E, B12), beta carotene and lignin (which             aids in penetrating the skin)

4.  The ancient Egyptians used aloe as an embalming ingredient

5.  Aloe was introduced to Europe in the 10th century and was used                                 medicinally.

6.  CAUTION:  Pregnant women should not take Aloe gel internally.
